Today, I was browsing on Facebook when this ad caught my eye. There was a $7 NLP online course for certification (by David Key). I checked it out, was convinced to try it, submitted my payment info, and waited to receive the email.
Least to say, I wasn’t very impressed. The portal for the course seemed pretty outdated in how it was presented. I found the main page where it breaks down into lessons. There were 9 lessons total. There was one page with an access to a PDF. The PDF didn’t look that appealing.
Well, you do get what you pay for. I don’t know if this course can quite capture my interest, but I might as well give it a try and see if anything worthwhile comes out of it.
I received an email just a few minutes later with a way to register for a no cost webinar (90 minutes) to learn what “took him decades to figure out”. I was curious, so I signed up. Fifteen minutes later, the webinar started at the scheduled time.
After David went through his background and his years of experience, he talked about this one method he learned which is kind of just like having a conversation that helped transform people’s lives. He keeps talking about how he will share it with us, but he never actually talks specifically about what that conversation entails. He just brings up a 4-step process of how to build your coaching business. I get it, he probably wants to make money of teaching the technique, but he even said in the video that his wife first learned of this conversation in a video she watched on YouTube. But, he never references the person or the video. He just mentions flying out to see this person 1-1 to learn this simple conversation, and then he uses it with a mix of NLP techniques, and says that it works. He even said it was much more effective in terms of results (covering all areas of life, not just a singular focus) than any other method he has ever learned. So why did he bother selling me the $7 NLP Practitioner course in the first place if there’s really this other method through a simple conversation that is much more effective?
Anyway, I wasn’t curious after that. I decided to just try the course and see what I learn, and thought worst-case I learn nothing, okay case I learn something that helps myself, and best-case I learn something that I can use to help others. But as for learning that “simple conversation” that supposedly transforms people’s lives, I doubt he would actually go over the technique in any of his products. He didn’t reveal it in his webinar even though that was the whole purpose of it, to reveal what he learned.
I still want to complete my lessons with Success Triggers by Ramit Sethi. So, I don’t know exactly when I’ll be able to review this NLP course. From skimming, it seemed like a bunch of NLP techniques slapped together in a PDF like a textbook. There were some audios embedded into the lessons, but I only got to listen to part of one. I just wanted to make sure the course was actually working.
He does offer a refund, but to be honest, it’s just $7. If I paid a hundred for the course, I’d definitely request a refund right away. But since it costs as much as a book, I’m willing to give it a chance first. I just have to get over how outdated it appears…
